Sorry for the thin documentation - but have Quake sooner is better than waiting months for a better readme... ****************************************************************************** This version of Quake II is compiled under IRIX 6.4, but is compiled to work with IRIX 6.2 and above. It has been tested and it works under IRIX 6.4 and IRIX 6.5, but I don't know about anything else. It has been tested on the following systems (and worked): Indy, Indigo2, O2, Impact, Octane, Onyx2. Feedback of working configs to add to this list are welcome. Note - Quake II uses N32 libraries (which may not be installed - esp. on IRIX 6.2). compiler_eoe.sw32.lib dmedia_eoe.sw32.lib eoe.sw32.gfx [only needed for GL version] ****************************************************************************** Get the Quake II CD and copy files to the Quake2 directory (where this readme is): cp /CDROM/install/data/baseq2/pak0.pak baseq2 cp -r /CDROM/install/data/baseq2/players baseq2 cp -r /CDROM/install/data/baseq2/video baseq2 If you get the error message: Error: Couldn't load pics/colormap.pcx Then it can't find the pak0.pak file - check the case of the files, directory name, etc. Then run it just like any other version of Quake 2... You can select video sizes, type of rendering (OpenGL or Software (the default)), etc. from the program. ./quake2 -------------- The full screen mode now does the right thing! Once full screen mode is chosen you can choose what video format you want (probably the same resolution as the video mode). You can even test video modes from this menu to make sure the monitor supports the mode. This only works under IRIX 6.3 and higher. -------------- NOTE - if you have a system that is slow for texturing (Indigo2 pre-Impact, Indy, Impact or Octane with no texture memory, etc.) then Quake II will be slow. Everything is textured in Quake, so just use the software rendering mode on these systems. -------------- To have Quake II grab the mouse (not let it out of the window) set the _windowed_mouse variable. This seems to be needed for fullscreen mode to work correctly (esp. when using freelook). -------------- To get around some different libraries on different versions of IRIX, use the included RUN script. This uses some included libraries in case your system doesn't have them. ./RUN -------------- To use addons: In the ctf directory should be: gamemips.so pak0.pak ./quake2 +set game ctf +map q2ctf1 In the xatrix directory should be: gamemips.so pak0.pak ./quake2 +set game xatrix
